This is the setting and the feeling of a Magical Creatures book — not a fixed plot. Every book is written from scratch around your child, so no two are the same.
The book opens with a soft rustle at the end of your child's bed and a tiny unicorn stepping out of the shadow of a lamp. She's been sent, she explains politely, to fetch the person the creatures have been waiting for. That person, it turns out, is your child.
The middle of the story is a tour through a hidden meadow full of magical creatures — a phoenix rekindling its fire, a griffin teaching your child how to bow, a small dragon who is bad at breathing fire and embarrassed about it. Each one gives your child something small: a feather, a scale, a piece of advice.
Magical Creatures teaches that the more gently you approach the world, the more of it opens up. The lesson tucked into the story is about kindness as a kind of magic — the creatures don't respond to power, they respond to warmth.
